Gala Opening Ceremony: New Uzbekistan with the “Common Sense Economics” Book

Westminster International University in Tashkent will host the Gala Opening Ceremony: New Uzbekistan with the “Common Sense Economics” Book on 13th April 2022, at 3:00 PM, Tashkent time.

Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) joined Economic Fundamentals Initiatives (EFI) fund in 2021, hallmarking the University lead academic partner for the promotion of the “Common Sense Economics” book in Uzbekistan. With this, Uzbekistan has been the champion country in Central Asia to embrace a global economic literacy initiative heralded by the EFI fund.

The Gala opening ceremony of the “Common Sense Economics” book is aimed to raise awareness about the book among the Uzbek population with the support of universities, research institutes, ministries and agencies, international development organizations, and the media. The event will feature the presence of the book co-author and EFI President Prof. Randall K. Filer during his first visit to Uzbekistan.

Randall K. Filer is a Professor of Economics at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Since 1993, he has also been a Senior Scholar and Visiting Professor of Economics at CERGE-EI, a joint workplace of Charles University and the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Economic Fundamentals Initiative (EFI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting economic literacy among the public in post-communist countries. EFI is engaged in adapting, translating, and distributing the book Common Sense Economics (CSE) in multiple regional languages (including Uzbek) as a free download at https://www.econfun.org/.

The event will be organized at WIUT campus in a hybrid mode, bringing in-person and virtual participants together. The event's working language will be English with simultaneous translation to Uzbek and Russian.
